Allow Art On Wheels to Introduce you to Master Artists with Disabilities
In this series, our students are introduced to a variety of Master Artists who have been challenged by various disabilities. They learn a bit of history about their lives as well as the style of art in which he/she worked. Hands on art activities are planned so that our students create their own masterpieces as they experience working in the style of each Master Artist.
As an example of one of the classes in this series…
Henri Matisse, 1869 – 1954, is one of the Master Artists whom we study.
In his later years, Matisse was confined to a wheelchair. Even with his physical challenges, he designed and created extraordinary paper-cuts for which he is remembered throughout time. He presented these in the form of collages, often on a very large scale. They were varied shapes that were cut from many different colors. Our students learn more about this ‘Master of Color’ as we guide them through the designing and creating of their own collage masterpieces in the style of this incredible Artist, Henri Matisse!
Travel Around the World with Art On Wheels
In this series, we serve as the ‘tour guide’ as we all. travel together (in our imaginations) to different parts of the world. While we visit each destination, we utilize visual art activities and a variety of media to help our students increase their knowledge about the history and culture of each of our ‘tour’ stops.
As an example of one of the classes in this series…
One of the stops on our world tour takes us to Africa. Our students learn about the Akan culture and the importance of gold and its uses over time in their culture. As our students increase their knowledge of the influence of jewelry has had on the Akan culture, they will design and create their own Akan pectoral disc to take home as a souvenir of their travels.
Explore the Artist’s Toolbox with Art On Wheels
In this series, our students are given the opportunity to ‘dabble’ in the arts as they utilize various visual art media. During each class, our students will explore the possibilities of different art supplies to express themselves.
As an example of one of the classes in this series…
Clay is a very engaging medium to use as a means to self-expression. One of the media which we have fun exploring is clay. As our students enjoy the processes of wedging and glazing, they also increase their knowledge of Viktor Schreckengost and The Jazz Bowl.
Keep the Wheels Turning with Art On Wheels
This series is designed particularly for the school student in mind. Whether you’re teaching in a public, private, religious, charter or home school, this series is for you. Throughout this series, we integrate the visual art activity with another subject (math, science, language arts, etc.) and teach those subjects through the use of hands-on visual arts activities. If you prefer, we also plan programming based with a focus only on the visual arts. State standards are used as our guidelines for all of these lessons.
As an example of one of the classes in this series…
One of the Ohio Standards for elementary school science has a focus on habitats. Our students increase their knowledge of habitats for various creatures as they recreate them utilizing various visual art activities and media. Reinforcing facts in any school subject through the use of visual arts activities has long been proven as an extremely effective approach to teaching.
